Derry
Situated on the banks of the Foyle estuary and 115kms from
Belfast, the city is the fourth largest city in Ireland
with a population of over 110,000 people distributed over
both sides of the River Foyle.
The close proximity to County Donegal in the Republic of
Ireland and the Antrim coast makes it an ideal base for
the tourist. Derry/Londonderry offers its visitors a dual
experience to explore a rich historical background, but
also to enjoy all the amenities of a modern city.
Over the last few years, more and more visitors are discovering
the delights of a compact city, which is unlike any other.
Derry/Londonderry is a city of culture and creativity and
now is as famous for its confident modern outlook as it
is for its timeless ‘craic’ (good times). Here
you can expect many a smile and greeting from people who
are noted worldwide for their hospitality.
The most visibly striking feature of the city is the historic
city walls. It is the only remaining completely walled city
in Ireland and one of the finest examples of all the walled
cities in Europe. They have been kept in a splendid state
of preservation through time and this leads to a pleasant
and interesting journey for the tourist.
